Matron of the Arts Cap

$33.00

Rep the feminist revolution in art collecting by rocking this hat with custom embroidery.

Let's talk matronage. Our language is riddled with gendered words—one of them? “Patronage”, coming from the latin for “father”, implies a (male) parental role for artists and creative projects, one that supports by providing (if we are to assume conventional gender roles are at work in this etymology).

But what about Matronage? Matronage is a different approach to collecting and supporting artists—one that focuses more on caring for an artist’s well being long term. Because in order to get women artists the respect and recognition that male artists get, we need to change the system of support. We can’t just swap male artists for female and non-binary artists to change the status quo—we have to change the fundamentals of collecting to support artists in all phases of life (parenthood included!), lulls and periods of growth and experimentation, etc etc.

So that’s what Matronage is— a new way of collecting.

• 100% cotton twill
• Unstructured, six-panel, low-profile
• Pre-curved visor
• Champion-branded inside seam tape
• Embroidered "C" on back left panel
• Tri-glide buckle closure
• Blank product sourced from China

This product is made especially for you as soon as you place an order, which is why it takes us a bit longer to deliver it to you. Making products on demand instead of in bulk helps reduce overproduction, so thank you for making thoughtful purchasing decisions!
