Less Than Half

COLLECTORS CIRCLE

The Less Than Half Matrons of the Arts are a group of women dedicated to raising the profile of women artists through collecting and support.

Members learn how to navigate the art world together through monthly sessions with art world professionals, as well as a share their discoveries, progress, and inquiries in a safe and supportive community space, led by Hall W. Rockefeller.

The Matrons of the Arts is open to anyone who identifies as a woman and is eager to support, collect, and invest in the work of women artists— no matter their exposure to or knowledge of the art market or art history.

matronage: when women holistically support the work and careers of women artists, and think beyond just an instance of commercial exchange, but also consider a woman artist's long term well being, both professionally and personally.

I DID It, and so can you

The LTH Collectors Circle is a way to connect over art (with others just as new to the game and excited as you), engage in the contemporary art world, and make an impact with what you’re investing your time and money in.

I’m Hall, the founder of Less Than Half, and your guide to navigating the art world. When I graduated from my Master’s program I knew no one in the New York art world.

Now, I have relationships with hundreds of artists, gallerists, and other art world professionals. I have a growing collection of women artists, and I want to help you have the same.

FAQs

Do I need a million dollars To Collect art?

Nope—I’m going to teach you how I bought a gallery quality art work for $200.

Do I need to step foot into those intimidating white galleries?

Nope—not if you don’t want to! I’m going to teach you how to buy art outside the traditional gallery system and how to navigate those intimidating spaces like a pro.

Will I have access to the recordings?

Yes, you will have access to all sessions past and present with art world professionals, including sessions on: how to buy art from an art gallery in Chelsea, how to buy art from an auction house, how to work with artists, when to hire an art appraiser, how to build legacy for your collection, and more!

Do I need to have an art history degree?

Nope—I’m going to teach you how to use your eyes, not your ears to buy great art—and talk about it.

Do I need to live in New York?

Nope—I’m going to teach you where to find artists in your neck of the woods (even if it is NY). In person events are sometimes in New York, but recordings for these will be available.

I’m non-binary, may I join?

Yes! The Less Than Half collecting philosophy is predicated on educating a group of people who fall outside of the typical idea of an art world mover and shaker (i.e. white male billionaire collector types) to support the work of women artists. If you feel that you fall into this category, you are welcome to join all LTH courses.
